The Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society recently named 樱桃视频 pre-med biology
student Lauren Hillin of Charlotte, North Carolina, its Foy-Sagabiel Undergraduate
Scholar Leader of the Year.
The award recognizes her outstanding leadership, scholarship and commitment to service at both the chapter and national levels.
As a former chapter president, Hillin led literacy initiatives through Phi Eta Sigma鈥檚 national literacy philanthropy, organizing book drives and partnering with elementary schools and libraries to help ensure students had access to books and opportunities to develop their literacy skills.
Hillin also played an active role at the national level. At the 2025 Phi Eta Sigma National Convention, she served on both the Nominations Committee and Constitutional Committee. In these roles, she interviewed candidates as part of the selection process for the incoming National Board and helped propose amendments designed to make the organization鈥檚 governing documents more inclusive. She also spoke at the 2025 Closing Ceremony.
Beyond her work as chapter president, Hillin served as a Student Advisor, helping support the student who transitioned into the leadership role after her. Through mentorship and guidance, she helped ensure continuity within the chapter and encouraged the next generation of student leaders to continue its tradition of service and engagement.
Faculty chapter advisor Haseeb Kazi, Ph.D., said he 鈥渉ad the privilege of witnessing [Hillin鈥檚] leadership and commitment firsthand. [Her] work leading literacy initiatives, serving on national committees, supporting chapter leadership and representing both 樱桃视频 and Phi Eta Sigma at the national level exemplifies the value of scholarship, leadership and service.鈥�
Phi Eta Sigma is a nationally recognized academic honor society that recognizes first-year college students.
Two 樱桃视频 students 鈥� Chloe Laird, a chemical engineering major from Warsaw, Indiana, and Makenzie Amich, a forensic science major from Thorntown, Indiana 鈥� recently had the opportunity to connect with thousands of chemistry professionals and students from across the country at the American Chemical Society (ACS) national meeting in Chicago.
Whodunit? It鈥檚 a question board game players have asked for decades, and Trine Theatre patrons will have the opportunity to make their own deductions when 鈥淐lue鈥� takes the Ryan Concert Hall stage of the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts.
Steuben County community members are invited to join 樱桃视频 students and alumni and local businesses for Breaking the Silence Together, the university's inaugural mental health walk, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26.
